I’m awed and humbled by the abilities you (and your children, and so many others) must possess to meet challenges I can barely imagine, never mind understand.

I hate taking my boys to the grocery store. I have five sons, and two of them have Asperger’s/Autism. They are high functioning, but there are still many meltdowns in public. Very few people are understanding of that.
I admire your bravery, and your finding some humor in it all.

What is it with eggs? My son also loves eggs… Easter is his favorite time. Those plastic eggs are his best friends!

That was painful to read only because I can identify so much with what you’ve written. Right down to the carrying him after I’ve sworn to myself that I will not do so. I’m having enough trouble resisting the temptation to strap him into the cart (at age 5 it’s borderline appropriate). I have to take both boys full blown grocery shopping with me every week this summer. We’ve had mixed results.

I’m now questioning my sanity in wanting Patrick to read.

Oooh, the petit four ought to be grand! It’s beautiful. And yes, the grocery store? I wrote my first HuffPo piece using what it takes to navigate food shopping with my three to how Bush should have planned the Iraq war. The last line was, “And WE always have an exit strategy.” Ain’t that the truth?
