I think the mom was just distracted and possibly just having a bad morning. I'm horrible on the phone if someone calls while I'm doing something or if the kids are making me crazy or if I just rolled off the wrong side of the bed. It is so frustrating though to get through those initial conversations, even in person. I kind of stink at it, so I can sympathize with your discomfort. I'm curious to know how it all worked out!

I agree the other mom sounded a little off. You didn't sound bad at all. Also I always give the address before directions and prefer it that way myself as well since most peoples directions just get me lost!

I totally get you on this one! We are not from quite so far as across the pond, but as Canadians are social cues are much more similar to the British than the Americans. So harsh I find :)

I didn't understand her end of the conversation at all. Quite frankly, I understood your end much better. And I'm American!

That cultural difference in offering directions is fascinating!

The woman sounded odd to me, or at least very distracted. I always sound like such an idiot talking to someone on the phone for the first time. I hope the sweet boys had a great playdate! It is wonderful that your son was so excited about it.

You know, not all of us Americans are that abrupt. :) I would consider it a compliment if you called my son "sweet"! :)

You are so hilariously funny. I love the "vat" of coffee! Americans make everything harder than it has to be, I think! Love the directions past all of the pubs! I know that I personally give way too many details - I'my overl helpful.

It sounds like you were very clear (which I personally appreciate). I don't do well on the phone when someone calls me...it's like I need a moment to collect my thoughts and adjust my brain to what the conversation might entail. I'm getting better at it though with practice.

I share your pain in communicating on the phone, but you did just fine. It sounds entirely possible that the woman you were dealing with was just plain odd.
