Breakfast at…….mid day maybe?

What can I say? It seemed like a good idea at the time. Why not combine our weekly trip to a restaurant with a gentle stroll? I’m on my own at the moment as their Dad had to “leave” for “England” unexpectedly.

I think my first mistake was the belief that 'breakfast in restaurant,' equated with 'motivation or reward,' surely proof positive of a serious brain malfunction on my part.

I knew that my brain was in a worm hole because after less than 50 yards I could calculate that at the current rate of progress, we might just arrive by next week, if we were very lucky. During these scientific multiplications it also dawned on me that next week, after we had eaten breakfast, I lacked any suitable motivation for the return trip home.

I was haunted by the upcoming newspaper headlines:-

'Foreigner takes up residence in Flames restaurant.

When interviewed, the woman Mrs. Madeline McMad, 47, explained that although she had permanent residence status in the United States, she and her children we unable to leave Flames, a family run franchise. McMad's home is approximately 1000 yards from the restaurant. Although walking impaired, she otherwise appears to be in good health. McMad owns a vehicle and a valid California Driver's license.

The owner of the restaurant, Mrs. Lalima Bhata is at a loss to explain her sudden popularity.

“At first I thought they were seeking Political Asylum but they're already citizens.”

The case is now being handled by the FBI, due to possible International terrorist connections. Agent “Mu Meng” was not at liberty to provide further information but explained 'clearly this woman has some serious, unresolved, psychological issues. She has a perfectly good car and yet choose to walk to the establishment. Now she claims that she has lost the ability to walk. You can be sure that there is more to this than meets the eye. She has an ulterior motive and it's our duty to find that motivation and protect the American people from this idle threat.'

Anyone willing to put up bail?

Yup! We call that a ‘whip round.’ Without Mike I make even more serious errors of judgment!
    Cheers

  3. Robin:

Chocolate milk or a pudding is usually a successful bribe for me, or a favored tv program. You have to time it right though – you have to get out of the car RIGHT NOW because Mickey Mouse is starting THIS VERY MINUTE. Not without it’s downfalls, my system…

I’ll be happy to post bail and take the kids. ;) We have a restaurant across the street. We rarely go. I have to have the guys cross the street. they will do this happily to go to D’s house, but not for food. :P

  8. The Domestic Goddess:

You took them *GASP* by yourself? At the same time he went away? Brave, indeed! I shutter us in when I’m flying solo. Even though I go plenty of places by myself all week I would not dream of going anywhere on the weekend by myself with the kids!

  9. CircusKelli:

I seem to have more than my share of “Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time” moments when taking all three children out somewhere on my own…

I lived for nearly 3 years with this mad woman… everyone knew something was “different” about her… nobody could place finger upon “precisely” what might be wrong”… in the end I got names like ASPERGER’s and PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER thrown at her… but I loved her and was defensive of her being slagged off. She was very dear to me, though I knew she found it hard taking in new factors, new things. Poor her. It wasn’t her fault. that’s just how things were for her. Not her fault herself…
I just wanted to say that re the “autistic spectrum” you have my sincere sypathies as i know how it feels to have a sincerly loved close one… yet not to know what on earth might be wrong at root…
do take care of yourself… my thoughts are with you

  20. Leanne:

You are very brave indeed. Things have improved around here since ‘dining out’ in any fashion has become a preferred activity. And, apparently, the empty plate is enough of a signal that it’s time to leave. I’m still not sure I would take them alone though.

  21. Niksmom:

Oh the memories evoked by the mere mention of FLAMES! Niksdad and I used to frequent the one in Milpitas! Why would you ever need to leave? I mean, the desserts are large enough that you could live off of one for an entire week…for the whole family! LOL

Hey there — I’m looking for guest posters during Autism Awareness month (April) and encouraging folks to blog for awareness that month (you do all year!).

If you’re interested I’ve posted about it here: http://momologue.blogspot.com/2008/03/join-me-in-blogging-for-autism.html

Reminds me of the old “Kingston Trio” song: “The Man Who Never Returned”.

Bwahahahaha! I’ve had my share of walks with Scott that prove the limiting aspects of infinity: he’ll walk a stretch, then sit down. Next he’ll walk half that stretch. And so on til he can’t move, stubbornly planted on the sidewalk. And there we stay til boredom becomes powerful enough to become a motivator. Trouble is, it’s usually motivated me long before it has him. If his older brother is along, there is bound to be some friction to keep things lively.
