A Well Beaten Path
It happened again, banned from the dance class. No more ‘Hip Hop’ for us. It’s a well rehearsed scenario, but I’m a bit out of practice. Over the years we’ve had lots of practice, a whole slew of places where we found we were no longer welcome:- Kindermusik, Music Together, the YMCA, Challenger School, soccer, multi-sports, Stratford school, Jazzercize, Summer Day camps and many, many restaurants.
I should be used to it, but it’s been a while. To read more click “here.”

I’ve been too lazy to register at Trusera so I can’t comment there yet.
It’s tough, trying to find the right fit. Wanting to be included but realizing it can’t always happen right away. We’ve been lucky with Scouts, but I havn’t even braved things like dance classes yet. He takes private swim lessons but there are other kids in the the pool for another class, kind of like the best of both worlds for us.
Have fun choosing who’s next to be ‘honoured by your presence’.

Oh wow….
I have just read some of your posts about your children, and especially the struggle with food.
I have one son with ADD, and one younger son with ?? - not to be labelling but it’s the quickest explanation I could give without taking up a whole page!
My younger son has experienced food difficulties much as you have described his whole life - and with the texture/smell of the food (we don’t get to find out about taste too often).
I thought it was just me ;-(
I mentioned to the doctor the other day I felt my boys were both on the Autism spectrum (even though one is now 16 and the other 13) - and he agreed. Each have Autistic like tendencies/behaviours - but I’d never heard of the food issue before - seriously.
Thank you - you may have helped solve a piece of the puzzle for me,
G

My reply to such things is usually, “i am sorry you are unable to appreciate and accommodate my child.” If I have any lessons left, I ask the money to be refunded immediately, as the problem is not ours, it is theirs. And then we take our money elsewhere.
I always keep my ears open at the therapists’ to see where other moms are taking the kids, and let them know when we find a place that takes Joey. For example, American Family Fitness’ Kid Zone didn’t even blink- and they didn’t just toss him into the fray, they have a person assigned to him when they see him coming. If he gets into trouble or needs a break, that assigned person is there to help guide him to a quieter area or less crowded activity (the idea is to keep him moving… he’s gotten a little round…)

Obviously, _their_ loss.

I’m sorry things turned out that way.

This makes me really sad. I wish that more people in our society were knowledgeable and compassionate enough to accommodate people with special needs.
