Processing
For some reason I am compelled into another pointless debate with my children.
“They're just steak fries really.”
“Mom! They're green. You can't eat green potatoes, that's bad!”
“They're green because of the parsley and Rosemary. Parsley potatoes.”
“Ghastly potatoes? Dey are for Halloween?”
“Not 'ghastly,' PARSLEY!”
“Sounds like 'ghostly!” she sniggers, the kind of snigger that is infectious amongst certain juvenile people.
“They're highly nutritious, very good for you.”
“I am be eat dah nutritious foods too.” I glare at my youngest child, he who eats only 17 foods.
“Really! Well you do eat fries I suppose. Maybe you could eat a green fry? It could be your new food for the week.”
“No.”
“See, I knew you were just teasing me.”
“It don't have one.”
“It don't…….it doesn't have one what dear?”
“It don't have one box.”
“Box? What kind of a box?”
“A box dat is saying dah nutritional content. I am only eat dah food wiv dah box.”
“Great. So that effectively means that you won't eat anything home-made, only over processed, store bought food!”
I pout.
He says nothing.
Everyone else sniggers.
He grins hugely.

Oh my gosh, my son would fit in really good with your guys, perhaps they should form the processed, crappy food only club! I like how a food must have a box with nutritional content on it to justify its edibility! I thought he was going to say they needed a red box with golden arches on them!

Your kids are ace! And so, so smart I’m always hugely impressed with their logic. Hope all well in your world, BG x

Maybe you should make a box just for the potatoes and then he’ll try them?

I guess it makes it easier cookin for you

Clearly you need to ban anyone shorter than yourself from the kitchen when you are preparing anything green…or anything not out of a box.
I can totally empathize, dear!

Start saving boxes and see if you can trick him into thinking it came out of a box complete with nutrition information on the side!

I’ve heard that getting some large cups from McDonalds (empty) and filling with homemade smoothies or shakes works with some kids.
Mine won’t eat anything with green stuff. Nothing with sauce on it, and God forbid, my son won’t eat anything that touches something else. Geeez

You definitely need to create DIY food boxes in one of your Tackle-It Tuesday posts. The boxes would come complete with FDA nutritional info and a fancy logo (perhaps a McDonald’s-style M for Maddy, in your favorite color — green!).

So are you going to have start making charts of nutritional values, vitamin contents, and the like so they’ll eat……
