Yes I read Roadmap to Holland and Jennifer is an exceptional person. As I read her book I often thought it was something I could have wrote myself. She really described the emotions really well. Another awesome book that she contributed to is "Gifts" http://giftsds.segullah.org/about-gifts/

I stumbled on your blog and just loved this post. I think if everyone that had a child with Autism shared so openly and honestly it just may put an end to most of the Ignorance.
I sure hope to have such a conversation with my little guy one day. I won't need to celebrate whether or not he actually is a hero because just being able to talk and share his thoughts will be enough reason!

Sorry it's been so long since I've commented, but I wanted to tell you this was so timely for me. I went to a support group for parents of kids with AS/HFA, etc, etc, and one of the moms with two newly dx'd kiddos (one age 6, one 14 months!), was asking about this in regards to her 6 year old.

His current thing is to stop in the middle of playing and angrily say to her, "Hey! You stole my lunch!" She has been quite perplexed, to say the least. :)

Another very interesting conversation!

Amy never stops talking to herself, from the minute she gets up to the minute she goes to bed. We are used to it now and switch off!
